Course Description: : This one-credit course will include coverage of the primary elements of the UGA computing environment: 1) campus student computing resources (campus labs, Galileo, GIL, OASIS), 2) email clients and procedures (Arches, attachments), 3) instructional uses of Web sites (WebCT), and 4) campus computer ethics and security policies. Reference librarians will teach units on GIL, GALILEO, searching the Web and evaluating the information you find. In addition, there will be some introduction to the most common software programs: word processing, spreadsheets, database software, and presentation software. Finally, students will be expected to complete a class project, which will demonstrate both web-authoring and research skills learned over the course of the semester. Other than web-authoring, no single topic can be covered very deeply; students should expect an introduction that will allow them to get started and then to learn more on their own. Each section will be taught in a computer lab, so that students will have the opportunity for hands-on instruction and personalized help from the instructor.

Course Requirements and Credit: Online @ UGA is a one-credit, pass/fail course. The course offers University credit and graduation credit. To receive a passing grade you must attend class regularly and complete a final project. You are allowed to miss 3 classes and on the 4th absence, you will be given a failing grade.
